Boeing Plant Contractor Recognized with Excellence in Construction Award

KBR/Turner Joint Venture recently was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of the Carolinas with an Excellence in Construction Award for its exemplary work and outstanding safety record in constructing The Boeing Company’s South Carolina 787 Final Assembly Building inNorth Charleston.

KBR/Turner was formally presented with ABC’s Eagle Award — the highest level award — at ABC of the Carolinas’ 2011 Excellence in Construction Awards banquet held at the Grandover Resort inGreensboro,North Carolina, on November 16, 2011. The project won in the category, Industrial Projects — Over $50 Million. KBR/Turner’s project leadership was invited on stage to formally accept the award, a specially designed sculpture of the American eagle, symbolizing free enterprise. In addition, KBR/Turner’s Boeing South Carolina project was a Finalist for ABC’s 2011 Project of the Year, and KBR/Turner received the 2011 Free Enterprise Award for having the largest number of ABC members working directly on the project. By winning an Eagle at the regional level, KBR/Turner qualified to enter the Boeing project in ABC’s National Excellence in Construction Awards program, the results for which will be announced in early 2012.

KBR/Turner, with design partner BRPH, completed the Boeing South Carolina 787 Final Assembly Building in May 2011. Related project components completed by KBR/Turner since then include the truck inspection building,WelcomeCenter, Flightline, site cafeteria, andDeliveryCenter. TheDeliveryCenterwas the last major component of KBR/Turner’s work package at the Boeing campus. KBR/Turner participated in Boeing’s formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for that facility on November 11, 2011.

KBR Building Group and Turner Construction Company have been partnering on select major projects in theCarolinasfor nearly 20 years. In 2011, KBR/Turner announced that it had received a 2010 Boeing Performance Excellence Award. The Boeing Company issues the award annually to recognize suppliers who have achieved superior performance.  In addition, KBR/Turner was named 2010 General Contractor of the Year by the American Subcontractors Association (ASA) of theCarolinas(Charleston Chapter).
