Alongside South Carolina ETV, SCMFG will produce compelling videos aimed at students around the state to encourage careers in manufacturing.
When I attended middle school in the Palmetto State, our science classes and eighth grade history studies were steeped in all-things South Carolina.
From Rudy Mancke and NatureScene to Mary Long’s Yesteryear, when SCETV was on, every student’s eyes were wide as golf balls staring at the blue light of the television next to the blackboard.
Compelling narratives taught us not only about our state’s history but its current infrastructure and industry. Right now, somewhere over the Pacific, there is a Boeing airplane outfitted with shiny lip skins built by South Carolina hands down at GKN Aerospace in Orangeburg.
Did you know Greenville-built F-16’a are supplying militaries around the world including Bahrain and Taiwan?
The highly automated and technical environment of the modern manufacturing facility is a world away from the dark, the dingy, and the dangerous venues of our textile past, and our state’s economy now relies on the sector.

To ensure a new wave of industry investment into South Carolina, we must produce an incumbent workforce from our schools, universities, and technical colleges.
Help us reach our students and create a new generation of skilled hands. If you would like to donate time, resources, or ideas to help us meet this goal, please reach out to jim.toppe@southcarolinamanufacturing.com.
