Attention SC Manufacturers; Tamassee DAR School in Oconee County announces new workforce initiative

In addition to providing multi-faceted educational programs to serve area children and families, the Tamassee DAR School will now expand its services to include an innovative workforce initiative designed to prepare children for potential careers in the aerospace and automotive manufacturing sectors.

Located on a 110-acre campus with an additional 740 acres for prospective use, the historic boarding school will offer a manufacturing-centric curriculum for middle and high school students while campus culture will dedicate to promoting a manufacturing lifestyle.

Additionally, Tamassee will partner with Tri-County Technical College to provide industry certifications for graduating students. By collaborating with local firms like Champion Aerospace, students will be open to working apprenticeships as well.

Jon Holland, Tamassee DAR School Interim CEO, told South Carolina Manufacturing “working in partnership with industry to fill the middle skills gap while providing an achievable dream for children really is a win-win.”

“We have dedicated 100 years to affecting change through education and we will continue to do so as we begin our next chapter,” he said.

The school made the announcement last week at an event featuring guest speakers’, John Lummus, from Upstate SC Alliance, and Adrianne Beasley from the South Carolina Council on Competitiveness.

Lummus addressed the need for continued workforce strategies at the grassroots level and applauded the Tamassee DAR School’s forward thinking and willingness to play a meaningful role in the state’s economic development efforts.
